Handbook of Research on Smart Power System Operation and Control by Hassan Haes Alhelou, Ghassan Hayek
Requirements: .PDF reader, 29,8 MB
Overview: Because society depends greatly on electric energy, power system control and protection focuses on ensuring a secure and reliable supply of power. To operate the electric systems in safe mode, the power system component should be equipped with intelligent controllers. The Handbook of Research on Smart Power System Operation and Control is a collection of innovative research on the theoretical and practical developments in smart power system operation and control that takes into account both smart grid and micro-grid systems. While highlighting topics including cybersecurity, smart grid, and wide area monitoring, this book is ideally designed for researchers, students, and industry professionals.

Control Circuits in Power Electronics: Practical Issues in Design and Implementation by Miguel Castilla
Requirements: .PDF reader, 19,7 MB
Overview: Control circuits are a key element in the operation and performance of power electronics converters. This book describes practical issues related to the design and implementation of these control circuits, with a focus on the presentation of the state-of-the-art control solutions, including circuit technology, design techniques, and implementation issues. Topics covered include PWM-based sliding mode control schemes for DC-DC power converters; synthetic-ripple hysteretic controllers for DC/DC converters; one-cycle controlled single phase power inverters; digital PWM control of high-frequency DC-DC switched-mode power converters; microcontroller-based electronic ballasts for high-intensity-discharge lamps; FPGA-based controllers for direct sliding mode control of PWM boost rectifiers; DSP controllers for three-phase unity-power-factor rectifiers and voltage-sourced inverters; FPGADSP controllers for DC-DC converters in renewable energy applications; topologies, modulation and control of multilevel converters; state-of-the-art intelligent gate drivers for IGBT power modules; control of integrated switched capacitor power converters; DSP-based natural frame control schemes for three-phase unity-power-factor rectifiers; dual-core DSP for control and communication in AC microgrids; and the use of computational intelligence for designing power electronics converters.

A Guide to Border Control and Patrol by Alison Knapp
Requirements: .PDF reader, 10 MB
Overview: The government reports included in this book range from June to September 2018 and examine US border control and security. The first report is focused on the Department of Homeland Security. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was established by the Homeland Security Act of 2002 and began operations in 2003. This report examines the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Strategy, Policy and Plans as well as its Sub-Offices. The second report is an assessment of selected DHS components requirements infrastructure (such as Customs and Border Protection, Federal Emergency Management Agency, the US Coast Guard, and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services). It provides recommendations on additional practices that could help better develop operational requirements. Next, the southwest border of the United States has long been vulnerable to cross-border illegal activity. According to Border Patrol data, in Fiscal year 2017, Border Patrol agents apprehended 304,000 illegal entrants. Additionally, the US Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) spent approximately $2.3 billion between 2007 and 2015 to deploy physical barriers along the nearly 2,000-mile southwest border. In the third report, the progress DHS has made is examined as well as the challenges it has faced implementing its border security efforts. In January and March 2017, the President issues a series of executive orders related to border security and immigration. The fourth report included in this book reviews the agencies implementation of the executive orders and related spending. Finally, the processes for tracking and unifying separated families are looked at and the progress and challenges in recruiting, hiring and retaining law enforcement personnel for US Customers and Border Protection is discussed in detail.
