Overview: Athena Voltaire started as a webcomic 2002 and quickly gained a good reputation and a fan following that included creators like Warren Ellis. After a two or three year run on various websites, creators Steve Bryant and Paul Daly “graduated” and got they’re adventurous creation into print, albeit in a very rocky way through Speakeasy. The less said about that is probably the better but they’ve landed at Ape Entertainment with a miniseries and now a collection of their Eisner nominated webcomic.

In “The Terror in Tibet,”the first story, Daly and Bryant play out their influences, even including actor Sidney Greenstreet as a character very, very similar to his Casablanca character. In an adventure involving nazis, Tibetan monks and even yeti, they begin building Athena’s world, establishing a fun mixture of war, adventure and fantasy elements. Similar to what Mike Mignola does with his Hellboy series, Daly and Bryant have created a world where they can tell almost any type of story and throw any kind of threats at their aviatrix. Nazis and mythical monsters exist together in the world, often searching for the same goals and only Athena Voltaire stands in their way.
